This comprehensive and free medical reference is from the University of Maryland Medical Center, one of the nation’s oldest academic medical centers. It contains more than 50,000 pages of in-depth and consumer friendly medical information in both English and Spanish.

This handy application provides medically reviewed information, which is divided into categories to make finding what you’re looking for as easy as possible. These categories include:

* Symptoms
* Injury
* Disease
* Surgery
* Nutrition
* Special Topics
* Poison
* Tests
* YouTube Videos

There is also an easy-to-use search feature on the app home page; just type in any keyword or search phrase and the search will return all related content.

This content is updated regularly, and the date it was last reviewed is at the bottom of each article, along with the reviewer’s name and credentials and all references. Articles also contain links to related content and medical illustrations with text that help to increase understanding visually.

The Power of UMMC

Most medical reference content also includes prominent links to clinical content on the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) site, which is the most popular hospital Web site in terms of traffic in the United States.

These links include access to our unique Ask the Expert feature, which allows you to ask questions to more than 70 different UMMC doctors on a wide variety of topics. Our experts received more than 7,000 questions last year, and this feature has consistently been ranked No. 1 by UMMC Web site visitors when asked what they most liked about the site.

The medical reference also offers a rich archive of topic-specific videos, which are another of UMMC’s most popular site features. These videos include doctor interviews, doctor profiles, patient success stories and many more, and are all on UMMC’s YouTube Channel. Check these out by going to the app home page and clicking on YouTube Videos.

Pros and cons of Medical Encyclopedia app for iPhone and iPad

Medical Encyclopedia app good for

This app is so full of great and very informative information. I have confidence. There will be upgrades. Just a thought perhaps a body parts and systems catagorie.But again thank you
So many things covered. Very helpful, looking up problems is so easy with this design. I really want to thank the makers of this app. You shared so much knowledge and werent just doing for the money but because you truely care
This is a great app, alot of things are cover, so are tests and posions.
This is a very useful app for physicians with a sizable Spanish-speaking patient load like I do.
Use it as a student nurse wit a tight budget and cant complain
Very informative and useful . A must have . Thank you for the maker.

Some bad moments

I can not sdeem to get any help with this but it does not work. It only comes up with a blank page.
This is a fantastic application! Combining the wealth of medical information from the trusted Mecca of medicine (Maryland), no Internet connection required, and giving it away for free makes this a definate "keeper".
Browsing is a little bit tough. Opened an article and couldnt scroll to the bottom part of the page. Intentions might be good, but execution is not very brilliant.
The app is very slow! And doesnt work most of the time. Just annoying to use.
Im a first year surgery resident and thought this might be a useful tool to have in my pocket as a medical database resource. But it is really too simplistic to be of any use to a doctor. I would imagine, however that it is quite useful to laymen and new nurses.
Another crappy app that is just a wrapper around a web application. Boooo. Ill keep looking for a good source of info.
